Avinash is an Indian actor who stars predominantly in South Indian language films and notably in the Kannada and Tamil film industries. Known for his authentic portrayal of complex characters and versatility, Avinash is one of the most sought after actors in the supporting category. He is one of the few actors to enjoy both critical and commercial success.

Avinash was born in Yelandur to Smt.Indira and Sri.B.K.Narayana Rao, a lawyer. He studied at Hardwicke High School in Mysore and completed his education at Manasa Gangothri, Mysore with an M.A. in English literature. Drawn to theatre and cinema from a very young age, he had a very active theater life at Mysore and then, later at Bangalore. Even as he worked as a lecturer of English literature, he was part of many leading theater troupes like 'Sanket' started by the late Shankar Nag. He was also part of the theater group headed by veteran B.Jayashree. His first role was as Madhvacharya in the biopic of the same name directed by the legendary G.V.Iyer. After critical success of Madhvacharya, Avinash decided to pursue a career as an actor.
With a post graduate degree in English literature, Avinash started his career as a lecturer of literature at N.I.E college, Mysore and then moved to B.E.L.College and M.E.S. College Bangalore. During that time, he was also active in the theater circles. He was part of many plays staged by 'Sanket', a very popular group headed by the late Shankar Nag. His first notable role was as the Hindu saint Madhvacharya by G.V.Iyer. In his illustrious career spanning more than 350 films and a timeline of two decades, he has donned multiple roles, each different from the rest and starred with almost all of the leading stars of South India.
Other notable films include Huliya directed by K.V.Raju, Chinnari Mutha and Singaravva directed by T.S. Nagabharana, Dweepa directed by Girish Kasaravalli, Mathadana directed by T.N.Seetharam, Apthamitra and Aptharakshaka directed by P.Vasu and recently, Siruthai starring Karthi Sivakumar and Doubles, a Malayalam film starring Mammooty. His upcoming films are Paramathma directed by Yograj Bhat and 7aam Arivu, directed by A.R. Murugadoss starring Surya Sivakumar.
Two films that enhanced his career involve two phone calls, the first one being from Rajkumar, who expressed a desire that Avinash should play father in law to Puneeth in 'Appu', a character that many had proposed Rajkumar himself should play. 'Appu' went on to become a massive hit in 2001. The second one was from Superstar Rajinikanth who expressed a desire that Avinash play the same role of Ramachandra Acharya in Chandramukhi as well, a role that had several leading actors as contenders.
Avinash is an avid reader of literature and a cinephile who enjoys lorld cinema. He is married to noted television actress Malavika Avinash.He is soft and very calm natured person which was very much liked by Vishnuvardhan (actor)

The SCT that includes many celebrities such as Bharathi Vishnuvardhan (actor and present President of SCT), Anirudh Jathkar (Actor), Shobaraj (Actor), Sagar S (Music Director), K S Shivaram (Actor), Vijayakumar (Producer)and many more celebrities organizes many Cricket matches for charity and also does a lot of social service.
